New Ulm was down 4-1 midway through the third period until Alex Nagel, with assists from Bennett Witta and Sam Storlie, scored to cut Willmar’s lead 4-2. Bailey Emery scored with 2:53 remaining in the game to extend Willmar’s lead 5-2. New Ulm was unable to catch up and ultimately fell short 5-2.
Dylan Lievermann scored one minute into the first period to give New Ulm an early 1-0 lead. Assists were credited to Vitaliy Nosov and Max Kjome. Willmar’s Evan Burke scored late in the first period to tie it up 1-1. The first period ended with New Ulm and WIllmar tied at 1-1 and the shots were even at 12-12.
WIllmar’s Dylan Gast scored the lone goal in the second period with assists from Kyle Wendorf and Kane Toriumi. Zach Martin and Alec Skar scored Willmar’s other two goals of the night. Kyle Wendorf and Kane Toriumi each registered three assists for WIllmar.
Jon Albers made multiple incredible saves for New Ulm, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough. Albers stopped 28 of the 33 shots he faced. Willmar’s goaltender, Alex Weissenborn, made 33 saves on the 35 shots New Ulm generated.
