New Ulm and Granite City were tied 2-2 early in the third period. Granite City registered two goals in the third period to take a 4-2 win over New Ulm. Shots were 38-37 in favor of Granite City.
Tucker Bjorlin opened the scoring at 3:13 into the first period, with an assist from Casey Esselman, to give Granite City a 1-0 lead.
Cory Martinez netted the first goal for New Ulm at 4:14 into the first period to tie the game up at 1-1. Assists were credited to Max Kjome and Alex Nagel.
Granite City’s Matthew Moran, assisted by Brandon Baker and Jordan Olson, scored early in the second period to put Granity City up 2-1.
Sam Wenner scored just two minutes into the third period to tie the game up at 2-2. Bayler Kraus and Luc Kreuser were credited with the assists.
Brycon Johnson, with assists from Jordan Olson and Ryan Smith, scored a power play goal at 8:08 into the third period to give Granite City their third lead of the game at 3-2. Andrej Jamnicky scored a short-handed goal at 11:21 into the third period to make the score 4-2.
Nathan Siclovan made 34 saves on the 38 shots he faced for New Ulm. Granite City’s goaltender, Mac Berglove, faced 37 shots and made 35 saves on New Ulm.
New Ulm totaled 12 penalty minutes on six infractions and went 0-for-5 on the power play. Granite City had a total of 10 penalty minutes on five infractions and went 1-for-6 on the power play.
