NEW ULM, NOT ABLE TO KEEP UP, LOSES TO NORTH IOWA, 5-2

New Ulm and North Iowa were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period. North Iowa scored four goals in the second period and New Ulm was only able to score one goal in the second period. Neither team scored in the third period and New Ulm ultimately lost to North Iowa 5-2.

North Iowa’s Brendan Studioso opened the scoring at 7:53 into the first period. Mike Lyons and Mitch Parsons were credited with the assists.

Fritz Belisle, with assists from Max Kjome and Vitaliy Nosov, scored at 14:01 into the first period to tie the game up at 1-1.

New Ulm’s second goal of the game was scored by Sam Wenner, assisted by Jacob Padley and Benji Mickel, at 12:40 into the second period to cut North Iowa’s lead to 4-2.

Josh Arnold, Lucas McKinnon, Tim Kuivinen and Steven Mordini each netted one goal in the second period for North Iowa. Steven Mordini and Marshall Barnes registered two assists. Brendan Studioso, Logan Miller and Owen Larson each got one assist.

Nathan Siclovan stopped 37 of the 42 shots North Iowa generated. North Iowa’s goaltender, RJ Pluhar, made 28 saves on the 30 shots he faced.

New Ulm had a total of 18 penalty minutes on nine infractions and went 0-for-5 on the power play. North Iowa totaled 16 penalty minutes on eight infractions and went 2-for-5 on the power play.
