SICLOVAN AND NEW ULM STYMIES ALEXANDRIA

New Ulm had a 3-1 lead over Alexandria in the third period until Tommy Giller scored with 4:06 remaining to cut New Ulm’s lead to 3-2. New Ulm was able to hold on to the lead to win the game and tie the series up at 1-1.

Cory Martinez opened the scoring with 28 seconds left in the first period. Fritz Belisle and Steven Mordini were credited with the assists.

Jacob Padley scored on a penalty shot at the 10:17 mark of the second period to put New Ulm up 2-0.

Caleb Anderson netted a short-handed goal 13:46 into the second period to get Alexandria within one goal of New Ulm to start the third period.

Jared Mickelson gave New Ulm a 3-1 lead with an unassisted goal 1:56 into the third period.

Nathan Siclovan made an impressive 49 saves on the 51 shots he faced. Alexandria’s goaltender, Brey Effertz, faced 34 shots and made 31 saves.

New Ulm had a total of 16 penalty minutes on eight infractions and went 0-for-5 on the power play. Alexandria totaled 41 penalty minutes on 10 infractions and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
