NEW ULM LOSES TIGHT, 2-1, GAME TO GRANITE CITY

Granite City broke the 1-1 tie in the second period with a goal from Logan Neu, assisted by Hunter Schwehr and Sean Salz. New Ulm was unable to answer back and ultimately fell short, 2-1.

Granite City’s Jake Van Halbeck opened the scoring 6:20 into the first period, finishing a tic-tac-toe passing play. Owen Sikich and Jordan Olson were credited with the assists.

New Ulm got on the board at 7:09 of the first period. Trevor Woytcke made a pass from New Ulm’s goal line up to Branden Penz in the neutral zone. Penz carried the puck over the blue line, fired a shot, and Kirk Coppock buried the rebound.

Ryan Kenny made a save on a penalty shot by Brandon Bissett in the third period to keep Granite City from taking a two-goal lead. Kenny faced 36 shots and made 34 saves for New Ulm.

Granite City’s goaltender, Ridge Gerads, stopped 35 of the 36 shots he faced.

New Ulm totaled 12 penalty minutes on six infractions and went 0-for-4 on the power play. Granite City had a total of 10 penalty minutes on five infractions and went 0-for-4 on the power play.
