NEW ULM ERASES SLOW START, BEATS WAUSAU, 4-1

After a scoreless first period, the New Ulm Steel finally got going with a goal from Ryan Smith at 10:06 of the second period. Henry Baribeau had a busy night, facing 52 shots and keeping the Wausau RiverWolves in the game. Wausau generated just 15 shots, with Drew Schenkenberg denying all but one.

Smith scored again at the 13:47 mark of the second period, giving New Ulm a 2-0 lead with a power-play goal.

Wausau got on the board early in the third period with a power-play goal from Matt Irwin at 1:04.

Oliver Hoeschen’s goal from just outside the crease and Jimmy Miller’s tally four seconds after a faceoff gave New Ulm the 4-1 win.

New Ulm totaled 10 penalty minutes on five infractions and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Wausau had a total of eight penalty minutes on four infractions and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
