The Twin City Steel picked up their fourth win in a row Saturday night as they defeated the Toledo Cherokee 6-3 at Romeoville Rink 2 in their second game of the NA3HL Showcase.
The Cherokee got on the board first with a power play goal from David Bogart at 6:41 of the first period. The Cherokee held onto their lead until Calvin Miska found the back of the net on the power play with just six seconds left to go in the period. Jace Childs and Alexander Konnov picked up assists on the goal.
The Steel converted on their power play early in the second period at the 0:38 mark as Jace Childs gave the Steel a 2-1 lead and Tony Arias tallied an assist. Calvin Miska scored his second power play goal of the night at 6:43 as Alexander Konnov and Jace Childs picked up their second and third points of the game, respectively. Toledo tied things up at three goals apiece with an even strength goal from Brody Duncan at 13:19 and an unassisted goal from Noah Szenderski at 17:17. Alexander Konnov reclaimed the lead for the Steel just 36 seconds later with an unassisted goal. A minute later Ben Ihrie lit the lamp on the power play with help from Calvin Miska and Zach Randell. The Steel ended the period with a 5-3 lead over the Cherokee.
Despite all of the penalties during the third period, neither team was able to convert on their power play. The Steel’s Jake McAfee scored unassisted at 12:57 and gave the team their 6-3 final over the Cherokee. Goaltender Jordan Moran made 21 saves during the game.
