ALEXANDRIA, Minn.-Despite being outshot 43-31, the Twin City Steel were able to top the Alexandria Blizzard 3-2 on Friday night at the Runestone Community Center.
The Steel got on the board first with an unassisted, shorthanded goal from Jace Childs at the 10:34 mark. He found the back of the net again on the power play at 18:01. Ben Ihrie and Zach Randall picked up assists on the goal, and the Steel skated into the second period with a 2-0 lead.
Calvin Miska finished off the scoring for the Steel and put them up 3-0 at 4:35 of the second period. The Blizzard were finally able to get on the board in the final two minutes of the period. Joe Anderson netted a power play goal at 18:40 and Ian Ecklund tallied an even strength goal at 19:29 to decrease the Blizzard’s deficit to just one goal.
During the third period, the Steel were able to kill off three minor penalties and goaltender Jackson Germaine made 13 saves to secure the 3-2 victory over the Blizzard and improve their season record to 12-12-2.
NEXT UP-The Twin City Steel (12-12-2) will host the Alexandria Blizzard (17-9-0) on Friday, December 20th at the Vadnais Sports Center. Puck drop is set for 7:30.
