MASON CITY, Iowa-The Twin City Steel went 2-5 on their power play Friday night as they lost their first game of the weekend 6-3 to the North Iowa Bulls at the North Iowa Ice Arena.
The Steel got on the board first with a power play goal from Tanner Duffney at 6:59. Ben Ihrie and Tyler Lodin picked up assists on the goal. The Bulls answered back just over a minute later with a goal from Conor Jonasson. The Steel regained the lead at 14:19 with an even strength goal from Brandon Taylor. Jerod Sabaska was credited with the lone assist. The Bulls made the score 2-2 at 15:27 with an even strength goal from Richie Marenis. Timothy Santopoalo took the lead for the Bulls at 16:19, and the period ended with a 3-2 Bulls’ lead.
The Bulls took advantage of their power play during the second period. Brandon Anderson scored with the man advantage at 10:17 to give the Bulls a 4-2 lead. At 19:37, Timothy Santopoalo scored another power play goal for the Bulls and they ended the period up 5-2 over the Steel.
The Bulls extended their lead to 6-2 in the third period with a power play goal from Conor Jonasson at 7:16. The Steel cut the lead in half at 18:30 with a power play goal from Chase Myers-Beck. Calvin Miska and Jerod Sabaska tallied the assists on the goal.
Shots were 35-33 in favor of the Bulls and goaltender Jackson Germaine made 29 saves during the game.
