Steel Overcome Bulls

            MASON CITY, Iowa-Despite being outshot 40-25, the Twin City Steel handed the North Iowa Bulls just their second loss of the season in an impressive 4-3 win Saturday night at the North Iowa Ice Arena.

            Evan Anderson opened up the scoring for the Steel at 3:12 of the first period with the assist going to Jake McAfee.  Jace Childs added to the Steel’s lead with an even strength goal at 16:18.  Tyler Lodin and Ben Ihrie tallied assists.  Shots were 10-9 in favor of the Steel during the period and they skated into the second period with a 2-0 lead.

            The Bulls got on the board at 5:09 of the second period with an unassisted goal from Timothy Santopoalo.  West Star of the Week Matt Kroska evened the score up at two goals apiece with an even strength goal at 8:43.  At 15:54, the Bulls took a 3-2 lead on an even strength goal from Ian Penvose.  The Steel quickly tied things up again when Even Anderson scored his second goal of the night at 16:15.  Jake McAfee and Brennan Osen picked up assists on the goal.  At 19:17, Jace Childs lit the lamp for a second time and scored what would be the game-winning goal as Chase Myers-Beck and Calvin Miska tallied assists. 

            The Steel killed off a minor penalty and goaltender Jackson Germaine made 11 saves during the third period to help seal the 4-3 victory over the Bulls.

            UP NEXT-The Steel (14-13-3) will host a two-game series with the St. Louis Jr. Blues (17-11-2) this Friday and Saturday (January 3rd & 4th) at the Vadnais Sports Center.  Faceoff is set for 7:30 both nights.
