New Ulm got their first lead of the game at 15:45 into the third period. The goal was scored by Jared Erickson and assists were credited to Nicholas Campbell and Trevor Woytcke. New Ulm had the 5-4 lead until Fritz Belisle scored on the empty net with 12 seconds remaining in the game to give New Ulm the 6-4 win. Shots were 48-38 in favor of New Ulm.
Wisconsin’s Ben Ratner opened the scoring at 4:25 into the first period with assists from Drew Steines and Jake Faulkner. Jimmy McDermott, assisted by Anthony Fortin, scored at 12:37 into the first period to give Wisconsin a 2-0 lead. Ben Ratner scored his second goal of the night at 14:13 into the first period with assists from Austin Lewis and Connor Boscaccy.
New Ulm started the second period trailing Wisconsin 3-1. Dylan Leivermann scored on the power play at 7:03 into the second period to get New Ulm within one goal of Wisconsin. Assists were credited to Sam Storlie and Bennett Witta. Fritz Belisle scored at 13:37 into the second period to tie the game up 3-3.
Fritz Belisle netted two of the three goals New Ulm recorded in the third period. In addition to Belisle’s empty net goal, he also scored a short-handed goal at 7:33 into the third period to tie the game up 4-4. Belisle’s three goals gave him his second hat trick of the season.
New Ulm totaled 23 penalty minutes with six infractions and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Wisconsin had six infractions for a total of 12 penalty minutes and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
