New Ulm hosted the Gustavus Adolphus Men’s Hockey JV team for an exhibition game Wednesday, Nov. 9. All profits went towards Jon Plaszcz’s recovery fund.

Jon Plaszcz suffered a severe spinal cord injury in the summer of 2016. Prior to his injury, Plaszcz just finished his freshman year with the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils hockey team. He played in eight games and registered one goal and one assist totaling two points.

Plaszcz was a former captain and teammate of the Steel for the 2014-15 season and part of the 2013-14 season. During his time with the Steel, he played in 48 games and registered 10 goals and 18 assists for a total of 28 points.


New Ulm was down 5-2 to end the second period. Gustavus scored one goal in the third period to take the 6-2 win.

Luc Kreuser opened the scoring at 12:05 into the first period with an assist from Colton Raymond. Gustavus’ Chris Kanamine scored one minute later with an assist from Jake Gunderson. The first period ended tied at 1-1.

Gustavus scored four goals in the second period. Jacob Padley, assisted by Vincent Billing, scored the other goal for New Ulm on the power play at 15:50 into the second period.

Jon Albers was in net for the first and third period. Brady Boudreau played the second period. Combined, they faced 22 shots and made 16 saves. New Ulm generated 38 shots on goal and Gustavus’ goaltender, Kyle Mugica, stopped 36.

Gustavus had a total of eight penalty minutes. Jake Dickison served all three of the infractions. Gustavus went 0-for-3 on the power play. New Ulm had a total of eight penalty minutes and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
