New Ulm ended the first period with a 1-0 lead over Breezy Point. Five goals were scored in second period and six goals were scored in the third period for a final score of 8-4. New Ulm out shot Breezy Point 43-37.
Orlando Scherz, with assists from Vitaliy Nosov and Max Kjome, scored on a breakaway at 7:26 into the second period to give New Ulm a 2-1 lead. Scherz scored his second goal of the game in the second period at 12:24 with assists from Bennett Witta and Jared Mickelson. Scherz also scored in the third period on the empty net with 50 seconds remaining in the game to give himself the hat trick.
Dylan Leivermann scored two goals against Breezy Point. His first goal of the night was scored at 13:58 into the second period with assists from Max Kjome and Vitaliy Nosov. Leivermann’s second goal was scored at 5:58 into the third period. Max Kjome was credited with the assist.
Breezy Point scored three goals in the third period. Austin Langworthy registered two goals and Steven Kukla got one. Wyatt Stotts, Josh Laven, Cyril Nagurski and Mitchell El-Wailli each registered one assist in the third period for Breezy Point.
Nathan Siclovan made 33 saves on the 37 shots he faced for New Ulm. Breezy Point’s goaltender, Magnus Lindhe, played just over 33 minutes and made 14 saves on the 19 shots he faced. Lindhe was pulled at 13:58 of the second period and replaced by Bronson Moore. Moore stopped 21 of the 23 shots New Ulm generated.
New Ulm totaled 26 penalty minutes on four infractions and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Breezy Point had a total of 24 penalty minutes on three infractions and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
