It may be the middle of June, but the New Ulm Steel are busy preparing for a run at the West Division once again. One of the first steps to achieving that goal was Tuesday night during the NA3HL Draft. First year Head Coach Andrew Kolb stated “we believe the guys that we drafted all have the ability to contribute or make an impact right away. We are unsure at this time where they will all end up, but the ones that end up in a Steel uniform will be poised to succeed next season.”

The Steel had nine picks throughout the 8 rounds in the draft and they were as follows:

1st Round #29 Overall: Zach Heiser, D Wichita Falls Wildcats (NAHL)

4th Round #76 Overall: Jack Johnston, F St. Paul Academy (MN High School)

3rd Round #122 Overall: Banden Penz, F Apple Valley (MN High School)

3rd Round #123 Overall: Montana Streit, F Rochester Lourdes (MN High School)

5th Round #264 Overall: Isaac Moberg, F South St Paul (MN High School)

7th Round #306 Overall: Jesse Reed, F Luverne (MN High School)

7th Round #311 Overall: Jacob Mabaquiao, D Anaheim California

8th Round #353 Overall: Ryan Murray, D Prior Lake (MN High School)

8th Round #358 Overall: Sam Krawczyk, F River Falls Renegades (USPHL)

The Steel will soon announce the 2017-2018 schedule and an open tryout camp is set for August 12-13 at the New Ulm Civic Center.
