The Breezy Point North Stars dominated the first half of the game, scoring three goals and outshooting the New Ulm Steel 13-6 in the first period. The second period was evenly matched, with solid efforts from both teams. New Ulm took over in the third period, outshooting Breezy Point 17-8 and scoring two goals.
Reid Morin opened the scoring with a bullet from the point at the 12:09 mark of the first period.
Tubbs and Dylan Borseth each scored a goal in the second period. Tubbs gave Breezy Point a 2-0 lead with a wrist shot from just outside the crease. Dylan Borseth scored on a wide open net 5:00 into the second period. Breezy Point’s Erik Gadbois skated behind Bielenberg, taking him out of the net. The puck was sitting just outside the goal line. Bielenberg had no time to recover, cover the puck and make the save.
Alex Nagel got New Ulm on the board at 16:36 of the second period. Nagel carried the puck from the neutral zone, into the slot and buried a wrist shot glove side.
Josh Maucieri netted his own rebound 1:35 into the third period to put Breezy Point up 4-1.
Steven Mordini and Kirk Coppock each scored a goal for New Ulm in the third period. Mordini was behind the goal line and, with a couple lucky bounces, the puck found the back of the net. Coppock scored from the slot off a centering pass from Ryan Smith 13:43 into the third period.
Bielenberg made 27 saves on the 31 shots he faced for New Ulm. Breezy Point’s goaltender, Bronson Moore, faced 36 shots and made 33 saves.
New Ulm totaled two penalty minutes on one infraction and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Breezy Point had a total of six penalty minutes on three infractions and went 0-for-1 on the power play.
