The New Ulm Steel grabbed a win in their first game of the NA3HL Showcase, beating the Yellowstone Quake, 4-2.

The game was tied 2-2 halfway through the third period. Alex Nagel sniped gloveside to score the eventual game-winning goal at 12:58 of the third period.

Steven Mordini opened the scoring with a wrister from the point 13:14 into the first period.

Trevor Woytcke gave New Ulm a 2-0 lead in the second period at 7:33. Woytcke entered the offensive zone and fired a slap shot from the slot.

Yellowstone’s Mason Stewart scored just 25 seconds later to cut New Ulm’s lead to 2-1. Riley Buller tied the game up with a power-play goal at the 6:12 mark of the third period.

Kirk Coppock backhanded a rebound for New Ulm’s fourth goal of the game 17:19 into the third period.

Ryan Kenny faced 30 shots and made 28 saves for New Ulm. Yellowstone’s goaltender, Jonathan Persson, stopped 29 of the 33 shots he faced.

New Ulm totaled eight penalty minutes on four infractions and went 0-for-5 on the power play. Yellowstone had a total of 10 penalty minutes on five infractions and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
