The New Ulm Steel failed to play at their usual pace and skill against the Alexandria Blizzard. Alexandria came out strong, setting up an abundance of scoring chances, but couldn’t find the back of the net until late in the second period.

Sam Storlie opened the scoring on the power play at 10:24 of the second period with a one-timer from the top of the circle that went in five-hole.

Brenden Payne tied the game up at 1-1, 16:06 into the second period. Alec Skar gave Alexandria a 2-1 lead with 2.7 seconds remaining in the second period.

Logan Nelson made it a 3-1 game at the 7:29 mark of the third period. Josiah Roen scored a short-handed goal at 11:33 of the third period after Brett Meister’s shot got through Ryan Kenny on the rush and left the puck sitting behind him just outside the goal line for Roen to slide it into the net.

Kenny faced 41 shots and made 37 saves for New Ulm. Alexandria’s goaltender, Brady Meyers, stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced.

New Ulm totaled four penalty minutes on two infractions and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Alexandria had a total of eight penalty minutes on four infractions and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
