The New Ulm Steel didn’t waste any time getting pucks in the net, as they had a 3-0 lead, just over five minutes after the opening faceoff. New Ulm outshot the Rochester Ice Hawks 59-29.

Combined, Kirk Coppock and Tom Reilly totaled five goals. Coppock opened the scoring at the 4:22 mark of the first period and completed his hat trick in the third period for New Ulm’s ninth goal. Reilly contributed two goals, including the final goal of the night.

Ryan Smith, Mason Trowbridge, Nick Wieben, Jimmy Miller and Brandon Mehlhop each netted one goal for New Ulm.

Ryan Kenny registered his fourth shutout of the season, making 29 saves. Rochester’s starting goaltender, Nick Barrett, stopped 25 of the 31 shots he faced. Barrett was replaced by Nick Bucklin after New Ulm scored their sixth goal. Bucklin faced 28 shots and made 24 saves.

New Ulm totaled eight penalty minutes on four infractions and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Rochester had a total of eight penalty minutes on four infractions and went 0-for-3 on the power play.
