Through the first period, it seemed this contest would be a close game between the New Ulm Steel and the Willmar WarHawks. Shots on goal were almost even at 31-30 in favor of New Ulm. Drew Schenkenberg did his part and made the difference making 28 saves to power New Ulm to the, 7-2, win.
Alex Nagel had a four-point night, scoring his one goal in the first period on the power play with an assist from Zach Heiser. Heiser contributed with one goal, which opened the scoring, and two assists.
Jack Parks scored the eventual game-winning goal going top shelf in the second period at 11:06.
New Ulm totaled six penalty minutes on three infractions and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Willmar had a total of eight penalty minutes on four infractions and went 0-for-3 on the power play.
