The New Ulm Steel had a successful weekend, sweeping the Evansville Jr. Thunderbolts with a 16-1 win Friday and a 9-2 win Saturday.

Nathan Andrade was the star this weekend. Friday night he tallied two assists and scored two goals. During Saturday’s game, Andrade completed a hat trick early in the second period and then added a fourth goal soon after.

Henry Baribeau was the starting goaltender Friday night and Noah Friedrich made his debut in net for New Ulm Saturday night.

Keegan Bauman, Corey Stormer and Jack Parks were all key players both nights, each scoring multiple goals. Michael Savelkoul and Michael Smits both contributed with a goal and five assists and Brian Oare with a goal and four assists.

Current and former New Ulm High School hockey players, Landon DePew, Glavine Schugel, Ryan Esser, Shane Esser, Ethan Kraus, Nolan Drill, Landon Strong and Hunter Hulke, filled in roster spots for Evansville, who showed up in New Ulm with eight players.

The New Ulm Steel’s next home game is Friday, November 23, the day after Thanksgiving, against the Willmar WarHawks.
