NEW ULM EDGED BY GRANITE CITY 4-3

The New Ulm Steel let go of a 3-2 lead with 7:45 remaining in the game. Noah Bissett of the Granite City Lumberjacks tied the game up at 3-3 and Carson Simon ultimately sealed the win for the home team with just under five minutes left to play. 

Granite City had five power play opportunities but New Ulm kept them from capitalizing on any of them with a strong penalty kill. 

Granite City struck first with a goal from Logan Stellmach 6:54 into the first period. 

Jacob Halvorson tied the game at 1, going coast to coast, surpassing four Lumberjacks and burying the puck top shelf. 

Granite City had a 2-1 lead early in the second period until Corey Stormer shot a one-timer from the slot on the power play. Michael Savelkoul gave New Ulm the 3-2 lead with one minute left to play in the second period.

Jack Raymond faced 37 shots and made 33 saves for New Ulm. Granite City’s goaltender, Bailey Huber, stopped 20 of the 23 shots he faced. 

Next weekend, the New Ulm Steel are on the road again headed to Willmar for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop against the Willmar WarHawks Saturday, October 12.
