MICHAEL SAVELKOUL COMMITS TO BETHEL UNIVERSITY

The New Ulm Steel is proud to announce that forward Michael Savelkoul has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at Bethel University.

“I chose to go to Bethel because it felt like home right when I got there. The coaching staff is so excited about the program and with me being a high-energy kid, that was something that I really liked. Everyone is excited about what’s to come with Bethel and I feel so honored to now be a part of it,” said Savelkoul.

Savelkoul, a native of Albert Lea, Minnesota, finished the New Ulm Steel’s 2019-20 regular season ranked first in assists and second in points amongst his teammates. Savelkoul has been with the Steel since the 2018-19 season and has played in a total of 89 games, tallying 30 goals and 70 assists.

“My time with the Steel was nothing short of remarkable. Everything I went through helped me grow on, and off, the ice. Having a community take you in and treat you like their own is something so special,” said Savelkoul.

Savelkoul, before his time with the Steel, also topped Albert Lea High School in points and assists his senior year.

“I’d like to thank everyone from coach Kolb, coach Campbell, coach Stepan, Weezy, all my teammates, staff members, etc. Without their constant help and support, none of this would be possible,” said Savelkoul.
