Wednesday night, the Steel started their 2 game week at home against the Willmar WarHawks. The first period was fast-paced with no scoring from either team. Willmar made an early lead in the second period with 2 goals before the halfway mark. The Steels’ Tommy Michelsen put them on the board at 16:12; assists to James Spaargaren and Bauer Barry. After 40 minutes Willmar was up 3-1. The Steel had a rough start to the 3rd as Willmar scored 3 goals in under 5 minutes making it 6-1. At game end, Willmar took the win 8-1.
On Friday, the Steel took on the Granite City Lumberjacks. The first period didn’t have much action until 13:19 when Steels’ Parker Dorn scored on the power play; assisted by Zach Maillette and Joey Gimberlin. Granite City quickly returned with 2 goals before the end of the first. The second and third periods were fast-paced with Granite City scoring a goal in each. The Steel had many opportunities to score but just could not get a goal past Granite Citys’ goalie.
This coming week, the Steel have two games. The first is Friday, February 19th at 7:10 pm on home ice. 250 fans will be allowed to be in attendance with doors opening and tickets on sale at 6:40 pm. COVID protocols will be in place. Sunday evening the Steel head to face the Granite City Lumberjacks in their territory at 5:00 pm.
