The Steel had their first full week of practice in a few weeks as they didn’t have a Wednesday game.
Friday night’s game on home ice did not end as we would all like as we went down 6-1 to Granite City. First period consisted of one goal by the Lumberjacks and a total of 5 penalties; 1 on the Steel and 4 on the Jacks. Second period was made up of 2 goals and 1 penalty by the Lumberjacks and 2 penalties by the Steel. In the third James Spaargaren scored trying to lead a comeback, but unfortunately, we did not.
Sunday we were on the road looking for redemption on the Lumberjacks. First period was full of action as each team took 3 penalties and each a goal. Parker Dorn lit up the light for his 2nd of the season; assisted by Teddy Lillico. Second period was rough as 3 more goals got through for the Lumberjacks. Griffin Foster relived AJ Cohen in net. Jake Saver and Tommy Michelsen both had solid shots on net. Saver’s attempt had the light lit but ultimately called off by the refs. Thrid period wasn’t as eventful, Foster was on his game with multiple solid saves. Each team put up 1 penalty, but neither a goal. The Steel fell to the Lumberjacks 4-1.
Next week, the Steel are on the road Saturday at Alexandria to face the Blizzard at 7:10 pm. We return home on Sunday, February 28th for a 2:00 pm puck drop against the North Iowa Bulls. 250 fans are allowed in attendence with continued mandatory masks unless eating or drinking and spaced out seating.
