The New Ulm Steel are proud to announce that forward Joey Gimberlin has committed to play NCAA hockey for Gustavus Adolphus College.
“I chose Gustavus because I like that campus and it had a great atmosphere, it is also close to home which I really like. I am starting off by majoring in business but that may change. The thing I am most looking forward to is meeting new people, meeting the guys on the team, and also expanding my horizons.”
Gimberlin, who is a native of St. Paul, Minnesota, played with the Steel for 2 seasons. In his 2019-20 season, Gimberlin played in a total of 42 games; he scored 13 goals and had 24 assists for an overall total of 37 points. In the 2020-21 season, he played in 33 games; putting up 10 goals and 22 assists for 32 overall total points. Gimberlin was nominated for the 2021 NA3HL Top Prospects where he played 2 games and scored one goal.
“My time playing for the Steel was great. I loved everyone I met in the program, made a lot of friends, and learned a lot on and off the ice. My experience also included some time playing in the NAHL for the Chippewa Steel which was also a great place to learn. Having Zach Stepan as a coach was awesome and he brought a great atmosphere to the game.”
Gimberlin started his hockey career at 4 years old. Growing up he played in the Sibley area, AAA hockey for the Minnesota Blades, and Minnesota Edge 2000 hockey. He then went on to play high school hockey at Cretin-Derham Hall where he put up 18 total points in the 2015-16 season, 12 total points in the 2016-17 season, and 15 total points in the 2017-18 season. Gimberlin will be joining the Gustavus hockey team for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
