The New Ulm Steel are excited to announce Erick Bromberg as the Steel’s Assistant Coach for the 2021-22 hockey season!
Bromberg is a native of Rochester, MN and no stranger to the New Ulm Steel! Erick played defense for the Steel for the 2019-20 season and the 2020-21 season.
“I am really excited for a new challenge and adventure with this new journey ahead of me. I am grateful that Curtis Doell (New Ulm Steel Head Coach), Mike Janda (Chippewa Steel Head Coach), and Kelly Kasik (Steel Owner) are giving me that chance to learn the ropes and get my feet wet in the coaching world.”
Bromberg started playing hockey at 4 years old and was hooked ever since. After youth hockey, Bromberg played high school hockey for 4 years in Rochester at John Marshall High School. He then went on to play in the NA3HL for the Granite City Lumberjacks in the beginning of the 2019-20 season and then coming to the New Ulm Steel at the end of the season where he played 7 games and had 1 assist. Bromberg then ended his junior hockey career last season with the Steel where he played 33 games and put up 2 assists.
“This season will definitely be a learning curve being behind the bench instead of on the ice, but I am happy to learn from Coach Doell, it will be a great experience. The player to coach transition is also something that will be a new experience as I have played with some of the guys on the team last season, we will all need to make sure we see one another in these new roles. Overall, it will be fun to help players grow on and off the ice, just as I have experienced as well.”
Although it is a whole new team behind the bench, the New Ulm Steel are looking to make this year a fun and great experience for the players and community. Home opener is scheduled for September 18th versus the Willmar Warhawks.
